Destination Istanbul at the MoMa Store

Last week I shared with you Ikea’s new line Annorlunda, focused on Indian and Vietnamese style, and many of you were not impressed. I received feedback that the Ikea designers did not use traditional Indian or Vietnamese colors nor did they use classic styles in their pieces. While catching up on my New York Times reading I noticed the new limited edition line at the MoMa Store, Destination Istanbul.  The museum’s design director Bonnie Mackay said this to the New York Times: “My team and I act as detectives — we go there and we look. In Istanbul, we spent a lot of time in food markets. There’s a whole culture around coffee and tea, how it’s delivered on these great trays swinging from hands. It was so poetic, and so beautiful.”

I feel the designers have done an excellent job in capturing the essence of Istanbul, yet displaying it in a fresh and modern way. I’d love to hear what you think.
