IKEA’s PS 2012 Collection

Is it IKEA week?! Yesterday I shared IKEA’s UPPLEVA media unit with you, and today I have some more IKEA news. IKEA’s newest PS Collection will be in stores in the United States in August. This is the 7th PS collection and is now launching at the Milan Furniture Fair. The 19 designers that worked on this collection were challenged to incorporate IKEA’s history as well as to look forward and figure out what will be trending next, with new forms and materials. In addition to these goals, the designers, of course, had to make sure all items remained affordable.

The new collection is made up of 46 products which are comprised of tables, chairs, lamps, textiles and more. These products are made up of recycled and recyclable materials such as bamboo, linen and recycled PET plastic. IKEA’s thought process behind this collection:

“In the design world, it’s sometimes fashionable to talk about vintage and release new products in old styles,” says IKEA PS project leader Peter Klinkert. “We always said that we don’t want to relaunch old things. It’s not IKEA PS. It’s not new and developing IKEA onward. Instead, we can find inspiration from the past and innovate products that belong more to the future.”

Can’t wait until August? Have a look at the online press kit.
