5 New York City Design Shops to Visit

Many of you ask me about my favorite design shops, here in New York. It’s hard for me to narrow it down, there are so many to choose from! Today I’m going to share 5 furniture and accessory shops with you, but this doesn’t mean these are the only ones in town, or that these are my absolute favorites.  I can’t call any shop my favorite because I really enjoy shopping and window shopping in all of them. There are in no particular order, so here we go!

1. DwellStudio

Recently opened in Soho, DwellStudio has been around for a many years online. I walked into the flagship store this past weekend and it was as gorgeous as I expected it to be. Furniture can be upholstered with DwellStudio textiles, or COM, and there are plenty of accessories to pick from as well!

Location: 77 Wooster Street, New York, NY

2. MoMa Store

The MoMa Store is my go to shop for gifts for birthdays, holidays and hostess gifts. They also have furniture pieces and accessories for the home. Everything is Museum of Modern Art approved and is of the highest design quality.

Location: There are two New York locations as well as stores in Japan and Korea

3. Canvas

Canvas is one of those go-to stores, where you know you will find something beautiful when you need it. The store specializes in furniture and accessories, ceramics, wood pieces and textiles, all made as environmentally friendly as possible, and all products of fair trade. It also has tons of things that can be bought for gift giving!

Location:  There are two New York locations, in Chelsea and in Soho.

4. CWonder

When you walk into CWonder you are greeted by dancing employees, loud music and bright green painted walls. Yes, CWonder has clothing and fashion accessories but it also has home decor items and table top accessories. Fitting with its theme, the home decor items are in bright bold colors combined with many patterns. It has a Jonathan Adler feel but with a more affordable price tag. You will not be bored. I promise.

Location: 72 Spring Street, New York, NY

5. Surprise! Surprise!

New Yorkers may be surprised to see this on the list. This place is super duper affordable, and I’ve been coming here since college! You have to dig around a little but you can find almost anything at this place, from furniture to window treatments to bathroom accessories. Seriously, they have it all!

Location: 91 Third Avenue, New York, NY

Have you been to any of these stores? What’s your favorite design shop to visit, here in New York or elsewhere?

This is a perfect list as I will be in NYC soon! Thanks for this.

I’ve been to the Dwell shop and the MOMA store (isn’t that THE best curated museum shop?) but not the others. They are now on my list!
