It’s been two and a half years since I was in Barcelona and I’m dying to go back. Even more so now that I’ve seen the Chic & Basic hotel, located in El Born. The 31 room boutique hotel was designed by architect Xavier Claramut. Claramut transformed a traditional Catalan building with 22 foot high ceilings into a clean, modern space with basic necessities.
One of the most unique features of the hotel is the lighting system, which allows the visitor to change the light color in their room based on their mood. Very well thought out! Claramut created an experience by offsetting the white walls with falling beadwork that has LED fiber optics in the common areas and shiny white mirrors. I love that these modern elements were added to the traditional space and original moldings and trim details were not removed. The visitor senses the history of Barcelona while the hotel remains current and fresh.
The branding of the hotel adds to the fabulous design. Espluga + Associates was responsible for the logo as well as the welcome pack, which you are encouraged to take with you through notes like “this is the cutest soap you’ll ever steal from a hotel”. I’m interested to see what’s inside “This is not another Barcelona guide”.
Have you stayed at Chic & Basic? I would love to know what you think!
