One of my favorite places in Sao Paulo was Hotel Unique. Unfortunately I visited at night and my pictures didn’t turn out so well. The hotel was designed by Brazilian architect Roy Ohtake in 1995. The exterior is shaped like a large boat, with porthole shaped windows. Alternately, you can look at the hotel as a half watermelon, with seeds as windows. Either way you look at it, the unusual exterior forces the viewer look twice.
The interiors were designed by Brazilian designer Joao Armentano. He worked for months to create the perfect interior, even traveling through many cities to find the one of a kind pieces for the space. While the exterior is made of dark stone, the interior is a mix of whites and beiges.
The hotel consists of 85 rooms and 10 suites, all of which come with Bvlgari amenities and Havaianas slippers. That alone makes me want to stay at this hotel on my next trip!
On the lobby bar you will find Wall Bar, which is a living room filled with a wall of bookcases. The 60 foot wall contains over 300 titles!
Chef Emmanuel Bassoleil is responsible for the fantastic food and drink at the Skye Restaurant and Bar, located not the rooftop of the hotel. One end of the restaurant is enclosed in floor to ceiling glass, which looks out onto a crimson pool, which over looks Ibirapuera Park. The views are spectacular and that alone made Skye Bar our top pick for drinks and meeting friends.

Stunning. The windows remind me of the Maritime Chelsea but the overall design of Hotel Unique makes such an impact!
