Merry Christmas! I hope you got everything you wished for this year Thanks for coming back to vacation with us today. Today we are in Aalborg, Denmark with Charlotte of Espresso Moments. I’ve been following Charlotte’s blog for almost as long as I’ve been blogging. It’s a great place to go stop by if you’re looking for interior inspiration. It’s also a great place to visit if you’re looking to take a break from real life and get absorbed in beautiful pictures! Well, let’s see how Charlotte’s celebrating the holidays this year in Aalborg. Please leave her some love. Comment and pop into her blog!
Where do you live?
I live in the northern part of Denmark in a city called Aalborg. I live here with my family (husband and two kids). I’ve lived in the city for about 12 years.
What is your blog about?
My blog Espresso Moments is about interior design and family life in the city. It’s a go to blog for interior inspiration for the modern family, who chose not to move to the suburbs because of the kids. It’s stylish apartment living, decorating, shopping and most of all a coffee break in your busy daily life.
What do you love about your city?
I love the combination of big city life and the more down to earth atmosphere of a smaller city. There’s room for the high street shops and the smaller independent shops – and when it comes to interior design shops – Aalborg is really starting to get the hang of it.
What is your favorite holiday site in your town?
After having kids, December is all about having fun and enjoying Aalborg with them. I love the outdoor market on Gammeltorv, where elfs run around, small shops have opened in the tiny cabins, the ferris wheel and the caroussel is there for the kids to enjoy. But I also love to walk by the train station and look at all the beautiful Christmas lights.
What is your must have holiday food in your town and where is it from?
I don’t have a special holiday treat that I must buy every year. I would rather make something at home, and invite good friends over for dinner or an afternoon of Christmas baking.
What is your must have holiday beverage in your town and where is it from?
One thing I do look forward to every year is when my favourite coffee bar, Behag Din Smag, brings out the Christmas menu. My favourite cup is a ‘sne mocha’ (a snow mocha), which brings out the Christmas spirit every time.
What is your favorite spot for a night out during the holidays?
Actually, I don’t have a favourite spot for a night out during the holidays. Ever since we’ve moved to a new part of the city, I’ve been wanting to check out the local spots. I’ve been to a few of them, but I don’t have a favourite one yet. But one thing I know for sure is that I like to support the small local spots.
What is your city’s unique holiday tradition?
The Christmas lights all around the city are a pretty unique thing for Aalborg. I remember when I first moved here and I saw the lights on Kennedys Plads for the very first time. It is something I look forward to every year. But if you’ve got children, it is pretty special to watch the lighting of the huge Christmas tree on Nytorv. We’ve also the coolest place in the middle of the city, where most of the kids go ice skating.
What is your goal for the New Year?
For 2013 I’ve picked out the mantra: Happiness is not a destination, it’s a way of life. I would like to live according to than mantra. I know that’ll put a smile on my face. It’s too easy to forget what makes you happy when you get wrapped up in the long list of things to do every day. I want to take an important first step, and start to live the life I only dream about right now.
