Happy New Year, 2013!

Happy New Year! Yes, 2013 is actually here! We’ve been so busy vacationing, planning for the holidays, planning for New Year’s Eve and now the day has arrived to buckle down and start a new year. I got back from Spain on Monday and haven’t actually had time to make a New Year’s resolution yet. Have you made one, or many? I have trouble keeping my resolutions if I make them too specific. I don’t know what’s better, to pick a very specific goal and try and stick to it, or to come up with an idea of how you want your year to be, and aim for that. This year, I’m not going to go into details like “loose 10 pounds” or “take a picture everyday”. If I could actually stick to those goals, it would be great, but honestly, life gets in the way, and I won’t! Instead, here are my New Year’s resolutions:

Happy New Year, 2013!

– Be the best blogger I can be. And let go. I love Life in Sketch and I love the content I create for you fabulous readers. I’m obviously going to continue to share really awesome things for you. Sometimes I read other blogs and see what they’re doing and think I should be doing more. Sometimes I have too many content ideas and want to blog it all, but I just can’t! I definitely overreach, in all aspects of my life. I’m going to do the best I can here and if I can’t cover something, it’s ok. I’m going to do the best I can, and not beat myself up about what I can’t do. Sounds easy, but for me it’s really hard!

Don’t be afraid to fail. Okay, this won’t happen over night, and it may not happen in just one year. We all want to do great things and when things aren’t so great, we feel really horrible about it. But we have to try. And failing is part of that process. Before I started Life in Sketch, I was really afraid. I actually didn’t start blogging for a while because I was scared. I’m glad I did because it’s opened up a whole new world for me, and I’ve met so many wonderful people. Failing sucks, but not trying is even worse.

– Remember, there’s so much good to come! This seems pretty simple, but when I’m busy doing 100 things and I’m super exhausted, this is a tough thing to keep in mind. I’m going to create a little banner above my desk as a little reminder.

So, what are your resolutions? Are they specific or general ideas like mine? Let me know so we can help each other. It’s easier to keep resolutions if you have a partner!

What wonderful sayings Tina, definitely ones to aspire to. I know what you mean about wanting to do so much all at once – I guess in good time we will achieve what we set out to do. Looking forward to following your blog in 2013, I won’t be in Cologne this year but looking forward to your reports. Are you coming to Meet the blogger in London? Wishing you a successful New Year xx

Hi Geraldine. Taking it slow is a hard thing to do, especially when there is so much you want to do! Good luck to you as well. I won’t be at Meet the Blogger unfortunately, not enough time off from work to do both. Have a great time, and hopefully we can find another place to meet in person!

Hi Tina! My resolutions are not set already, but I can tell you they’re use to be quite general like yours. Actually I love yours! Blogging helps me to face little fears… it forces me to get out of my comfort zone.
I’ll try to remind me more often that the best is yet to come, thanks for sharing!
Happy new year and welcome back home!
