Mr. Steam, an industry leader in steam therapy, was one of our amazing BlogTour Cologne sponsors. After two full days at IMM although we were excited by everything we’d just seen, we were exhausted! The night the Mr. Steam team had planned for us was very welcome. Us lucky BlogTour-ers were treated to a fabulous night at Claudius Therme. It’s technically a spa, but it’s not like any spa I’ve seen in the United States!
Claudius Therme consists of three levels which hold indoor and outdoor pools, hot springs, saunas and steams, a full massage area and a fantastic restaurant. Germans take their work life balance seriously, and we noticed that many in Cologne had memberships to spas similar to Claudius Therme. (Work/Life balance is something I really need to work on!) The most memorable part of the evening was when many of us were in the outdoor hot spring tub, in the freezing cold, while it was snowing! It sounds scary but it was one of the best experiences and I will never forget it!
While at Claudius Therme we learned a bit about Mr. Steam, and we even heard tidbits about Mrs. Steam, Martha. Everyone says that her skin is gorgeous because she steams every day, so I had to learn more. Last week I got to speak to Martha on the phone and found out a few things you may find interesting.
Daily rituals: Martha steams for about 10 minutes every morning. She takes a cold shower afterwards, which refreshes her and gets her ready for her day. She feels that its a nice soft way to enter the world in the morning. Many steam at night and follow with a warm shower. (Tip: it helps with jetlag!)
Spice up your steam: Martha has an aromatherapy pump in her steam shower. Her favorite scent is eucalyptus and it’s set to automatically induce doses throughout the steam. You can pick any scent you want!
Favorite accessory: Martha loves her towel warmer! There’s nothing better than stepping out of a cold shower, into a warm towel!
Stay healthy: Martha has a trainer that she sees 2-3 times a week. Post trainer she never misses a steam! She steps inside for just 10-15 minutes and it does wonders.
Fun steam tips: Martha had severe skin problems 7-8 years ago. I was surprised to hear this because I’d heard so much about her great skin. She now puts a scrubbing mask on before she steps into her steam shower and it removes all the toxins. Now, her skin is flawless!
It was great to catch up with Mrs. Steam and hear about how much she believes in this product. When someone is passionate about their product you can tell easily. She was so enthusiastic about the benefits of steam, which include removing toxins, reducing stress, and reducing illness (it’s great for a cold!). For more steam benefits read this.
After hearing about all of the benefits I was a little concerned about the cost. I’ve been assured that the Mr. Steam products are affordable. The goal behind Mr. Steam is to help, and because of that they insure that everyone can (and should) have a steam shower in their home!
There are a few cool new products coming out soon. Soon a touch screen control will be released that will be suitable for wet and dry environments. I love that everything is being automated!
What do you think about steaming? Do you want a steam shower in your home? Are you planning on installing one?

I want to meet Mrs Steam! She sounds cool. I also want a steam shower and aromatherapy towel heater… Great post!

Tina, I agree that was definitely one of the defining moments of BlogTourCGN. Sitting out in the snow in that amazing hot tub was so surreal, my hair actually froze! That whole experience really made me want to have a steam shower at home, what a great way to relax and no wonder Martha has such gorgeous skin!

Stacey, it really was one of the defining moments. I tried explaining it to others, but unless you were there with your frozen hair and snow on your nose, it’s hard to understand. I’m so glad we were able to experience it together!
I have met Martha in person, and her skin IS lovely. Yes, I want a steam shower in my home. I have the Mr. Steam towel warmer already, and it’s fantastic. Warms all my clothing up (see how it has many uses besides towels?) while I’m getting ready for work. And I hate the smell of eucalyptus. Luckily, they have many other very lovely fragrances.

I’m not sure eucalyptus is for me either, but I really like the idea of infusing your steam shower with a little something special. The towel warmer is key. I really want one! Love the alternate uses for it too, thanks for sharing!
How different is a steam shower from a sauna?
Our bath has a sauna (Thanks to our previous owners)….and after reading your post I feel like I need this steam for this beautiful skin.
Advice?
And I want to see a picture of Mrs. Steam
Sauanas are dry heat, where steam is wet heat. Sauanas are great too, they open up the pores. But from what I understand they don’t remove the toxins, which is key. Will work on getting you that picture
I went back and checked the docs…apparently ours is a steam shower (now I see how clueless I am). We only use it raringly. But now I am inspired by your post
Try it use it at least once a week. You’re really lucky to have one! It’s really good for you!
It’s a brand called Roma. Looks like our previous owners had good foresight. I will try what your recommend and report back if my skin is getting better.
Maybe it will have miraculous anti aging effects.
Yes, please try it and let me know. Excited to see the results. I’m sure it will help with anti-aging too. Removing toxins always helps in the long run and it will possibly slow further wrinkles? (You are gorgeous now so not like you have to worry!) If you love the steam maybe you add a towel warmer?!
Tina, how does this towel warmer work? How big is the equipment and is it energy efficient?
I am intrigued by this spa you went to. Great post and thank you as always for bringing something new to us.
Rashmi here is some info about Mr. Steam towel warmers:http://www.mrsteam.com/products/towelwarmers_benefits-test.html The electric heaters run on a standard outlet. Shouldn’t use too much electricity. It really is nice to have a warm towel, it’s my favorite part of hotel stays!
