There have been many unfortunate things happening recently from natural disasters to man-made traumatic events. IFDA, International Furnishings and Design Association, has planned a charity event to help some affected by these occurrences. I’m so happy to announce that I’ve teamed up with my friend and colleague Sarah Sarna for IFDA’s Take A Seat. Several designers and industry vendors from New York, Japan and San Diego are participating in Take A Seat, which benefits both Japan Tsunami Relief and Hurricane Sandy Relief.
Participants are asked to refurbish a chair. The finished chairs will be on display for 10 days, May 7 – May 16. The chairs will then be auctioned off at the closing gala. The kick of party will be at the TOTO showroom in Soho and we’ll be able to Skype with designers in Japan and California!
You’ll be able to view the chairs in the store windows and floor of the Lillian August store. You’ll also be able to vote for your favorite chair! At the end of the event, one chair at each location will win the “People’s Choice” award. Cool, right?
If you’d like to attend the gala auction, you can purchase tickets through IFDA. It’s on Thursday evening, May 16th. While I won’t be able to attend the auction and closing gala, I’m so excited Sarah and I were able to team up on this project. (If you’re attending the event, be sure to stop and say hi to Sarah!)
Tomorrow I’ll share more about our chair and fabric. Until then you can visit IFDA’s blog which has details about all the participants and their chairs. Be sure to visit Sarah’s blog, Live The Life You Dream About, to get her perspective, too!
