Design Crush Mondays: A White Sanctuary in Sweden

I saw a gorgeous white sanctuary while reading Espresso Moments and thought it would be perfect for this week’s Design Crush Monday. It’s so hot here in Manhattan that when looking at interior spaces I’m searching for something cooling and uncluttered. I’d love to escape the 90 degree weather in this minimalistic Swedish apartment.

I love when apartments are entirely painted in high gloss white, ceilings, floors and walls. Although the high gloss finish can be difficult to maintain it looks beautiful and reflects the light. This is especially cool when you have a fabulous chandelier or a great view. You’d be amazed at how high gloss white can act as a sort of mirror!

This apartment is decorated in furnished with brown, earthy tones which creates a warm look against the white. While some of the upholstered pieces are white, many pieces are in woods and leathers which add texture to the space. Wood is even seen as an accessory, with wood logs placed near the fireplace.

I love the use of black in this home as well. Black is strategically placed in the lamps, pillows and artwork. It balances out the bright space without creating a very “black and white” look that you see in many homes. The small black details allow this home to still appear “white”.

When you walk into the study you encounter an unexpected surprise. The window wall is wallpapered in a large floral print. I’m not immediately drawn to florals but I love the way it’s used in this room. It’s the right amount of pattern to break up the continuous white, and adds personality to the study.

There’s one last detail I want to point out. The stylist or decorator of this home brings the space to life by accessorizing with green plants. While it may not be something you notice right away, the green color makes the apartment feel like a home. I love the way the greenery  is carried though all the rooms, especially the kitchen.
