After Alt NYC a few of us bloggers were fortune enough to visit the Etsy headquarters in Dumbo, Brooklyn. Chelsea of The Paper Mama is super amazing and set up a tour for us. Visiting Etsy was exciting. I mean, it’s Etsy! I use Etsy’s site daily to search for myself, for gifts for friends and family, and of course for you! I’ve found so many wonderful vendors on Etsy that I’ve highlighted here on Life in Sketch. I was thrilled for the opportunity to walk through and take a look around.
Etsy was designed as I expected it to be, colorful and full of humor. Many things were made of recycled and reused materials, such as the reception desk which was made by a local artists with found objects off the Brooklyn streets. The reception area was divided by a panel decorated with intricately weaved felt. It created a unique wall with lots of texture!
I fell in love with the office names. Each office is combination name, a musician mixed with a food. For instance, there were names like Depeche a la Mode, Johnny Cashews, Nine Inch Snails, Ace of Bouillabaisse, and Slayer Cake. I couldn’t stop giggling!
Each new Etsy employee is given $100 worth of Etsy credit to decorate their desks. (Sort of their flare) I was super jealous of this and now I totally want to work at Etsy! As we walked around we saw several personal touches on each desk and I found myself wondering how I would decorate my own desk.
I was most blown away by Etsy’s work atmosphere. Pets are allowed, group lunches are provided and community is encouraged. Yes, it’s a super crafty place that looks cool, but it also seems like a great place to work. Thanks for having us Etsy!
