Shop This Room: A White Accent Wall

I’m so happy to welcome Diana of Wren’s Zen today! Diana is sharing a Shop This Room post with us today, showing us how to create an interesting accent wall. I’ve never thought about using white as an accent wall, but after reading her  suggestions I’ll have to try it. Thanks Diana!

Oh the misunderstood, feared, and revered, accent wall.  When I’m doing color with clients, the accent wall questions always come up, like “Are they still in style?”  and, “Which wall should I be accenting?”  This fresh living room by Cutler Design Construction, gives a new twist on the accent wall with white. And, it totally works!  Instead of considering the gorgeous teal wall as the accent, the white wall is really the star in this room.

The secret to a white accent wall, or any accent wall, is everything that goes on that wall.  This white wall with its built-in shelving, and layered artwork, makes it clear that this is where the eye should go.  Adding even more white to the room, with the rug, frames,  and white coffee table, pretty much says of the white wall, “I meant to do that!”  Now you could paint the back of the open shelves with a yellow, or even the teal, but I like keeping the wall completely free of other colors. This look also gives this room an open feeling, even with the gorgeous charcoal sectional, and dark wood floors.   This living room is so… livable!
