While Ajay and I were in Helsinki we had the pleasure of eating at a fantastic restaurant, Gaijin. Gaijin is the creation of chefs Tomi Björck and Matti Wikberg, who have opened other delicious restaurants in Helsinki, including Boulevard Social (which we also visited) and Farang. We seriously enjoyed our meal, and loved the interior too! I had a Design Crush from the second I stepped inside!
The cuisine at Gaijin is a combination of North-East Asian delicacies. The food is served tapas style and we were encouraged to order 2-3 plates per person. We tasted several things on the menu and enjoyed everything. Ajay and I were lucky enough to get a table, we tried more than once and the restaurant was packed every time!
The space was dark, with dark grey/black walls, ebonized wooden screens with cut out details and medium wood tables. The lighting was minimal with spotlights above each tables and candles on each table. The lounge seating was filled with a large communal bar height table, as well as low grey sofas.
We loved our night at Gaijin, everything was perfect. I wish it was here in New York so we could visit again soon!
