Design Crush: A Studio in Gothenburg, Sweden

I stumbled upon this small studio in Gothenburg, Sweden on Home Edit. I was immediately drawn to it’s brightness, and it’s Scandinavian style. The studio is 29 square meters, which is approximately 312 square feet. Once I realized how small it was I was blown away by what the owners managed to fit in while making the space feel large and spacious at the same time.

Building vertically is key in small space design, and here the owners have decided to stack the bed area on top of the office area. I love that they are using all the floor space for living. If a bed had been placed on the main floor plan it would have taken up much of the space and the apartment would not feel as livable as it does now.

The owner also used smaller area rugs to designate specific areas for working and living, which I find interesting. I love large rugs which take up most of the space, but the two smaller rugs help the space appear to have larger areas than it does.

As always with small spaces you have to keep the space free of clutter. I like that the space feels decorated with plants, books and throws but does not feel overwhelming with too many things. Being able to see surfaces is important in small spaces, it helps add to the open feeling.
