I have another book for you to add your coffee table collection this spring! I just finished turning the pages of How To Achieve The Home Of Your Dreams by Kelly Hoppen and I have so much to share! Kelly Hoppen started her design school in 2001, after being an internationally recognized designer for several years. She is no longer teaching the school, due to time commitments, and has instead put together this book. The book is Kelly’s way of “holding your hand through the journey of designing a home” and I think she’s done a wonderful job!
Kelly breaks the book down into several pieces and helps you achieve not just a beautiful home, but a home with the “Kelly Hoppen look”. Her signature look is modern, elegant and sophisticated and something I think many designers would love to be associated with, and many homeowners would love to have for themselves.
As a designer I first analyze my client’s needs, their space and what they have to work with. By sharing examples of past client’s, Hoppen helps the reader analyze their own spaces in an easy way.
Hoppen also helps the reader plan their space by breaking it into zones, taking a good look at the flow of the home, and provides tips on space planning. While this is usually difficult to explain, Kelly does so easily with great visual clues.
Lighting is one of the hardest things for designers and homeowners alike to get right. How to get the right amount of light into a space, use the right type of lighting, and where to direct the light are things many question. Kelly has shared her own top 10 tips of lighting in the book and even shares quick tips on how to create a lighting scheme.
Once the foundation is laid the furniture needs to be chosen, pattern and color must be taken into account and the home must be accessorized. The second half of the book is broken down by room. Kelly points out things to consider in each room and area type as well as shares details about planning each area. There is so much in this book, that you’ll have no problem finding the answers to your questions.
