I recently received a copy of Decorating The Way I see It by Markham Roberts in the mail. I love getting snail mail and I especially love turning the pages of gorgeous design books with stunning content. I was already impressed when I removed the book jacket of this book. My bookshelves are filled with “naked” books and only a few are patterned and textured. The faux python exterior proved once again that designer Markham Roberts pays attention to all the details!
My shelves are filled with many design books and many are “how-to” books, which can be fantastic. But after a reader has gone through all the basics of design they have to learn to add life to their spaces. This is where Roberts comes in. His book is not exactly a how-to book, but it does explain why he makes the choices he does. And these choices are what takes a room from planned out to well designed.
In addition to sharing decorating tips, Roberts shares life and lifestyle tips. He advises readers to place a bar in their living rooms, to get people into large rooms rather than the large spaces staying empty. Sound advice!
As we’ve all heard many times before, a space is never finished without accessories. Roberts has some fabulous tips on how to accessories, what to accessorize with and what not to collect. He advices a clutter free environment with small but important collections placed thoughtfully through a space.
Markham Roberts has written and composed a gorgeous book showcasing his work while incorporating meaningful tips and design ideas. If you are looking to take your decor to the next level, above well planned, this is the perfect book for you. Alternatively if you’re in the market for a coffee table book that will get your guests talking, this is the book.
