Shelter Island Waterfront Home: by TRC + WM

I recently completed a beautiful family home in Shelter Island and have been dying to share it with you! I teamed up with my long time friend and former Vicente Wolf colleague Maureen of Winter McDermott to complete a home for our young client. We had been spending a bit of time together working on a ground-up home in Quogue when we met this lovely couple. The duo already had a young daughter when we met them, and were preparing for the arrival of their second child. That, paired with a newly purchased home is a lot to handle! They enlisted our help to redesign the space and bring it to life. Our goal was to create a kid-friendly home that was sophisticated and comfortable at the same time. The couple lives in Manhattan full time, and invested in a Hamptons home to spend both summers and winters. We did have a smaller budget to work with but are thrilled with the results!

By painting the brick fireplace wall white we brightened up the space, which was quite dark to begin with due to the ebony floors and wood angled ceiling. We added a bright but child-friendly rug to lighten the floor. Instead of starting from scratch, we reupholstered the client’s existing sofa in a Perennials indoor/outdoor fabric – which is the best for possible spills and stains! A few chairs, ottoman and accessories and we have a brand new living room!

The bedroom needed a little bit of love as well. While the house has fabulous bay views, the interiors were a lot to manage for a young, growing couple. We invested in a new bed, nightstands and sconces to create a cozy, comfortable master suite. We also added a small reading nook off to the side of the room, so our clients will be able to take full advantage of the view!
