Earlier this year I was introduced to the Hope Lodge. It’s funny, I walk by it often, on my way to and from Penn Station and didn’t give it much thought. This hidden gem is a gift to so many battling cancer, as well as their loved ones. I learned that there are 32 Hope Lodges across the country and all help those in need – providing a home away from home for those healing and undergoing treatments at nearby facilities. The cost of living is free for those battling cancer and their caretakers and they can stay as long as they need. The NYC location has served over 14,000 cancer patients and their caregivers from around the globe and across the U.S.
The talented designer Guillaume Gentet and architect David Carpenter have recruited several designers to participate in an event benefiting the Hope Lodge and I’m thankful to be one of those designers. This year’s gala is being held on Tuesday December 6th at The Harmonie Club and is themed around “Seasons of Hope”. The “Seasons of Hope” theme represents the journey of a cancer patient, and the HOPE that each day brings from season to season. Guests will experience an evening of fine wines, extraordinary food, and elaborate designs representing the four seasons and an opportunity to bid on an array of unique auction items.
I chose my favorite season, Summer, and designed around my recent trip to Cartagena, Colombia. While in Cartagena I was amazed at how vibrantly everyone in Cartagena lives their lives, and truly enjoys each moment of the day. I was lucky enough to find the perfect fabrics at Robert Allen, who generously donated gorgeous colors and patterns to execute my vision. Martin Albert Interiors is working with me to create the perfect table cloth, seat covers and napkins. These paired with the stunning tabletop pieces by Vista Alegre and Twig NY, and table and chair florals by Dawn Melanie Designs will scream Verano en Cartagena! I’m excited to see it all come together next week.
