My Mini-Guide to NYC, on Espresso Moments

Many of you know Charlotte of Espresso Moments. I’ve been a follower of hers for a long time now, I’m absolutely in love with her design style! Charlotte has guest posted for us here on Life in Sketch a few times, in September when she participated in our Boutique Hotels series discussing the Stay Hotel in Copenhagen and then again in December when she shared a little bit about her holiday celebrations in Aalborg. I’m thrilled that Charlotte has asked me to share a bit about my NY life with her! Today I’m over at Espresso Moments with my Mini-Guide to NYC.

Design Hotels: A Rustic Palace in Sevilla

It’s my second month as a contributor for Live The Life You Dream About, by Sarah Sarna. Some of you may remember that last month I kicked off my new Design Hotels series with one of my favorite hotels in one of my favorite towns, the Farol Design Hotel in Cascais, Portugal. This month we’re visiting another city I love, Sevilla. I had a chance to visit while I was in Spain this past December and it’s absolutely stunning! While I didn’t get to stay at Hospes Las Casas del Ray de Baeza, I did get a chance to walk around. I adore how they mixed old elements with new. You can hear all about it at Live The Life You Dream About. Would love to hear what you think!

Art in General {plus} The Weekly Recap

Happy Friday! Has this week flown by for you? I expected it to drag through but it passed fairly quickly for me. It feels as though I was in Brazil so long ago, it’s hard to believe it was only last week! While walking to Chinatown yesterday I passed by Art in General, a gallery on Walker Street. They were setting up for the Christopher Duffy exhibition and I was able to get a quick iPhone shot of the window display. It will open on Saturday and run through December 15th, so we’ll have plenty of time to check it out.

Boutique Hotel Series: Blooming Hotel, The Netherlands

Can you believe our week of travel is coming to an end? I thought we should end on a relaxing note, and the Blooming Hotel is the perfect choice. You will see why in just a moment. Thank you for taking the time to “vacation” with us this week. I know my guest authors have put much time and energy into their lovely write-ups this week. I’m sure they would love to hear from you again, so please leave them some love here, or on their own blogs. I have included all of their links below their posts, so you will have no trouble finding them! Have a great weekend, see you next week!

My name is Wendy, I’m a photographer, stylist, blogger, mother of two and the owner of beeldSTEIL and The Scandinavian Side Of Life. I live in a 30′s house in a small town in the middle of The Netherlands. I started beeldSTEIL two years ago, in 2010. On this blog I collect and share my inspiration, photos, founds and projects.

Early 2012 I started my second blog: The Scandinavian Side Of Life on tumblr. It’s an online pinboard about Scandinavian art, (interior) design, travel and photography.

Blogging represents much of what I like: photography, styling, visual art, graphic and interior design.

Once a year my family and I visit our favorite Dutch hotel: Blooming. The hotel is located in the dunes and within walking distance from the artistic village of Bergen (Northern Netherlands).

I love the relaxed and creative atmosphere of the hotel. A place where I feel right at home. The hotel is filled with modern interior design from well known (Dutch) designers. The rooms are equipped with comfortable big beds with Coco-Mat mattress, sturdy bunk beds for the kids and a pile of inspirational magazines. Sometimes it’s difficult to get out of bed and leave the room!

During the day we walk through the dunes, along the seaside or visit Bergen. This friendly village is the home base of many artists. A mobile Art Route leads you to the historical places, buildings and galleries. Bergen is also a good place for shopping and dining. We can’t go home without a visit to the Sissy Boy  Beach Pavilion & Store and a home-made wood oven pizza from Fabbrica.

In the lobby of the hotel is a small design shop. Everytime we leave the hotel I buy a  small ‘Blooming souvenir’. As a reminder of another nice visit.

In short, Blooming is a great place to relax, clear my head and create new ideas.

I’m jealous of Wendy’s inspiring vacation spot! I’m sure you must be too. To hear more from Wendy, you can find her:
